Multnomah County Library Holgate Branch

Part of Multnomah County’s 2020 capital bond, this ground-up construction rests on the site of the original Holgate Library. At 21,000 SF, it is more than triple the size of the former building and among the largest libraries in Multnomah County.

The project integrates advanced technology to enhance user experience and operational efficiency, and Hyphn’s AV solutions are no exception:

  • Eight meeting rooms—totaling 900 SF—are equipped with state-of-the-art AV systems to support video conferencing and remote connectivity. These rooms are right-sized to accommodate various needs.
  • Three two-person huddle rooms feature easy-to-use interfaces, allowing users to attend virtual job interviews, telehealth appointments, or study sessions.
  • Multiple large flex spaces with movable room dividers provide space for library and community-hosted events. Patrons can check out laptops and connect to the integrated AV microphones, cameras, and projection system.

AV Design and Installation

A first for the Multnomah County Library system, Holgate’s Teen Room is equipped with the latest gaming systems and state-of-the-art AV technology to provide a place for teens to study, do homework, attend virtual meetings, create rich multimedia content, and play games.

Each of the large community flex rooms is equipped with an Assistive Listening System (ALS) featuring an inductive loop for easy connection to hearing aids. For those without hearing aids or who require an interpreter, a portable ALS system is available. Ensuring accessibility and equity for all patrons is a core value of the Multnomah County Library System and a key component of the AV solution.

Hyphn developed a custom UI for controlling AV systems, ensuring that interfaces are tightly integrated with the tech they control, and provide a unified experience across all AV installations in the Multnomah County Library system.

Additionally, large digital signage displays are strategically positioned in circulation corridors and can be remotely updated by library staff.
